India has imposed a five-year anti-dumping duty on solar glass imports from China and Vietnam to protect domestic manufacturers from cheap imports. The duty, ranging from USD 570 to USD 664 per tonne, follows a detailed investigation by the Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR).
The investigation revealed significant dumping of textured tempered solar glass, adversely affecting Indian producers. This glass is a critical component in solar panels, and the influx of cheaper imports was undermining local manufacturing capacities, impacting competitiveness and employment in the sector.
The move aligns with India’s broader strategy to strengthen domestic manufacturing under the “Make in India” initiative. By curbing unfair trade practices, the government aims to create a level playing field for Indian solar glass manufacturers and support the country’s renewable energy goals.
