Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority has secured a $70 million long-term external commercial borrowing loan from the International Finance Corporation to fund shore power supply infrastructure. Marking the first blue financing deal in India’s maritime sector, the ten-year loan will allow berthed container ships to connect to land-based electricity, cutting carbon emissions by 63 percent and reducing local air pollution by 90 percent. The project aligns with the Harit Sagar Green Port Guidelines and will deploy commercial-scale shore power starting at Gateway Terminals India. Parallelly, government think tank Niti Aayog is launching a comprehensive evaluation of key export support schemes, namely RoDTEP and RoSCTL, to assess their impact amid changing global trade dynamics and upcoming FTAs. The assessment will review input-use efficiency, productivity, and sectoral competitiveness to determine if these tax remission mechanisms need modification or replacement. This dual focus underlines India’s commitment to sustainable port logistics alongside resilient export policy frameworks.
