Maritime Safety: Quick Response Team Set Up for Seafarer Evacuation

Published

The Directorate-General of Shipping (DGS) has operationalized a Quick Response Team to coordinate emergency response and need-based evacuation of Indian seafarers in the Persian Gulf. This move follows tragic attacks on vessels off the coast of Oman that resulted in the death of three Indian crew members. While Indian-flagged vessels have not been directly targeted yet, the government is closely monitoring 27 Indian ships currently in the region. Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal chaired a review meeting to activate all necessary precautionary mechanisms for the safety of maritime assets and personnel.
