A comprehensive report by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) highlights massive execution bottlenecks, revealing a cumulative cost overrun of approximately ₹5.4 lakh crore across 1,987 ongoing central infrastructure projects. While over 40% of these projects have reached advanced physical progress, the transport and logistics sector remains the heavily burdened core, accounting for 1,476 of the monitored projects. Amidst these structural financial delays, India achieved a landmark marine engineering victory with the successful completion of a highly complex rock dredging project at the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) by the Dredging Corporation of India Limited (DCIL). Overcoming prolonged delays, DCIL successfully conducted controlled blasting and drilling operations in extremely dense rock formations up to 180 MPa compressive strength. Done in close proximity to critical marine infrastructure without causing structural damage, this milestone establishes a new national benchmark for specialized marine engineering and significantly boosts JNPA’s daily operational shipping efficiency.
