Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal announced ₹1,000 crore worth of infrastructure projects in the Northeast over the last two years, with ₹700 crore in ongoing works, focusing on river transport.
Key projects include the Brahmaputra (NW-2) and Barak (NW-16) rivers, passenger vessels, terminals, and a proposed inland water hub at Doyang Lake in Nagaland.
Other plans involve water transport development on the Tlawng, Chhimtuipui, and Umngot rivers, supporting connectivity, trade, tourism, and job creation in the Northeast.
