National Turmeric Board (NTB) chairman Palle Ganga Reddy stated that India’s turmeric exports could increase from the current ₹1,876 crore to ₹5,000 crore by 2030, given the high value of Indian turmeric in international markets. He also announced plans for the board to promote turmeric consumption by serving turmeric-added milk on trains and flights.
Ganga Reddy, speaking at a Turmeric Stakeholders Conclave at the Indian Council of Agriculture Research-National Institute for Research on Commercial Agriculture (ICAR-NIRCA) in Rajamahendravaram, highlighted that turmeric is grown across India, except in Goa.
However, he pointed out that pesticide residues and heavy metal contamination are hindering India’s turmeric exports to global markets. He urged scientists to address this challenge to support turmeric farmers and benefit domestic consumers.
