Port Congestion Pushes Up Costs for Indian Exporters Amid West Asia Disruptions

Published

Indian exporters are facing rising logistics costs as port congestion and shipping disruptions linked to the West Asia conflict continue to impact global trade routes. According to the Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO), congestion at key western Indian ports and additional surcharges imposed by shipping lines are increasing storage expenses and delaying cargo movement. Freight rates on routes connecting India and West Asia are expected to rise by up to 50%, putting additional pressure on exporters’ margins and supply chains. FIEO has urged the Indian government to intervene and help minimise disruptions through policy support and coordination with shipping stakeholders. While global container freight rates have eased slightly in recent weeks, they remain significantly higher than pre-conflict levels, highlighting the continued challenges facing India’s export sector.
