Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) is undergoing a major technological overhaul to handle over 50% of India’s containerized cargo with greater efficiency. The report highlights the development of the Vadhvan Port in Maharashtra, which is projected to rank among the top 10 container ports globally upon completion. With a naturally deep draft, Vadhvan will be capable of hosting the world’s largest “Mega-Max” container ships. This expansion is critical for reducing India’s reliance on foreign transshipment hubs like Colombo or Singapore, thereby lowering the “landed cost” of goods and strengthening India’s position in the global supply chain.
