Port Vigilance: Major Duty Evasion Uncovered at Nhava Sheva

Published

Customs and the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) have intercepted a massive mis-declaration racket involving the Comoros-flagged vessel WIV Reyfa. In a high-stakes operation, 46 containers were found carrying Chinese walnuts falsely labelled as ‘Afghan produce’ to illegally claim zero-duty benefits under the SAFTA agreement. Investigations reveal a staggering duty evasion of approximately ₹50 crore, with the vessel held at Nhava Sheva Port for over two weeks. This incident has triggered a high alert across Indian ports, leading to intensified scrutiny of cargo originating from transit hubs like Bandar Abbas to ensure trade compliance and national security.
