Protecting Small Businesses: India Considers Anti-Dumping Duty on Chinese Drawer Slides

Published

The Indian government is taking steps to protect its micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the drawer slider industry. The commerce ministry’s investigative arm, the Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR), has recommended imposing an anti-dumping duty on telescopic channel drawer sliders imported from China.

This recommendation comes after the DGTR’s investigation concluded that Chinese drawer sliders are being exported to India at a price below their normal value, a practice known as dumping. This underpricing can harm domestic producers by making it difficult for them to compete on price. The investigation also found that these cheap imports are undercutting the prices of Indian-made drawer sliders, potentially leading to lost sales and revenue for Indian businesses.

The DGTR’s recommendation is not the final decision. The finance ministry will now weigh the evidence and decide whether to impose the anti-dumping duty. If implemented, the duty would increase the cost of imported drawer slides from China, making them less attractive to Indian buyers. This could level the playing field for domestic producers and help them compete more effectively. The move also highlights the government’s commitment to supporting the growth and development of MSMEs, a vital sector of the Indian economy.
