Regional Resilience: Bengal’s Export Recovery Amidst Global Volatility

Published

Exporters in West Bengal are closely monitoring global trade shifts after suffering a significant decline of nearly ₹3,500 crore in exports over the past five months. Key regional sectors, including leather, garments, and marine products, were hit hard by previous 50% US tariffs, but new markets in the UAE, China, and Europe have started compensating for the deficit. To counter these uncertainties, the Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC) has welcomed the government’s new Export Promotion Mission. This mission provides 360-degree support, from raw material procurement to global branding, to empower both small suppliers and large-scale manufacturers. By focusing on e-commerce and high-volume orders, Bengal’s industry aims to regain its momentum despite the ongoing global tariff fluctuations.
