A high-level business delegation representing South Korea’s maritime giant, HD Hyundai, met with Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay to lock in execution timelines for a mega-scale shipyard project in Thoothukudi. Involving a direct capital investment of ₹38,000 crore ($4 billion), this heavy industry cluster is projected to create more than 15,000 direct and indirect jobs in the southern region of the state. Chief Minister Joseph Vijay assured the South Korean leadership of absolute administrative support and rapid inter-departmental coordination to fast-track foundational infrastructure work. The massive venture is being organized via a dedicated special purpose vehicle, the National Shipbuilding & Heavy Industries Park Tamil Nadu Ltd, combining the resources of SIPCOT and the V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority. Having already cleared its initial regulatory approvals from the Directorate General of Shipping, localized construction will begin shortly.
