West Bengal’s Tourism Minister, Indranil Sen, announced that the state government will collaborate with the Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port (SMPK) to promote river tourism. The state’s Chief Minister has instructed officials to focus on developing this sector, which has immense potential. The port’s chairman, Rathendra Raman, outlined plans for world-class river cruise terminals and beautification projects along the riverfront, including dynamic lighting for the Howrah Bridge and the development of Millennium Park III.
Nandini Chakravorty, the additional chief secretary for tourism, highlighted Bengal’s growing appeal for MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) tourism. She added that planned investments for the tourism sector in 2025-26 are approximately ₹5,710 crore, with 42 new luxury hotels expected to be built across the state. The chairman of the Kolkata chapter of the Indian Association of Tour Operators (IATO) also unveiled the association’s ‘Responsible Tourism Vision 2027,’ which aligns with the conclave’s theme of sustainable excellence.
