Union Government Committed to Modernizing Maritime Education

The Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, has emphasized the government’s commitment to modernizing maritime education in India. This commitment was highlighted during a ceremony at the Indian Maritime University (IMU) campus in Kochi, where the foundation stone was laid for a new girls’ hostel, and infrastructure development projects across six IMU campuses were virtually inaugurated. The total estimated cost of these projects is Rs 67.77 crore.

The projects include a new girls’ hostel at IMU Kochi, costing Rs 13.11 crore, aimed at improving residential accommodation for female maritime students. Additionally, infrastructure projects were inaugurated across five other IMU campuses, including the installation of simulators, solar power plants, sports facility enhancements, and student hostel renovations.

Shri Sonowal reiterated the Union Government’s dedication to transforming India’s maritime education by providing world-class infrastructure and training environments. The event concluded with discussions on the future of maritime education, training innovation, and continued infrastructure development across IMU campuses.
