Vadhvan Port’s First Phase to Be Ready by 2030, Says Sonowal

Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal announced that the first phase of the deep-sea port at Vadhvan, Maharashtra, is expected to be finished by 2030. He noted that the expansion of major ports is an ongoing process involving modernization, new berths, and enhanced connectivity. The Vadhvan port is projected to handle 23.2 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) annually, with an estimated cost of ₹76,220 crore.

Sonowal also mentioned that the International Container Transshipment Port at Galathea Bay in Great Nicobar has been designated as a new major port. This port is planned as a transshipment hub and is expected to handle 16 million TEUs per year, with development occurring in four phases at a cost of ₹43,796 crore.
