Vizag Port & Digital Traceability Elevate India’s Seafood Export Dominance

Published

Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA/Vizag Port) established itself as India’s premier marine export gateway, handling nearly 50% of the nation’s total seafood exports under the One District One Product (ODOP) program. Concurrently, the Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry launched the Aqua Trace digital app to build an end-to-end traceability system for aquaculture farms and hatcheries. This initiative aims to maintain global quality standards and minimize export consignment rejections due to antibiotic residues and contamination. Government reports revealed that the overall rejection rate for Indian shrimp exports stood at a minimal 0.13% between 2018 and 2026, with stricter regulations introduced on veterinary antimicrobials to safeguard global market access.
