The World Trade Organization has revised its 2026 global merchandise trade volume growth forecast upward to 3.9%, citing strong digital supply chain recovery and resilient intra-Asian commerce despite ongoing geopolitical uncertainties. Complementing this global rebound, cargo traffic across India’s 12 major state-owned ports grew by 8.2% year-on-year during the April-September period, driven by surging shipments of petroleum products, iron ore, and containerized freight. To further boost export competitiveness, the Ministry of Finance announced that Indian exporters will soon receive comprehensive tax refunds on capital goods, plant, and machinery under updated duty-neutralization rules. Concurrently, trade delegates from BRICS nations held high-level discussions in Mumbai to formulate a unified policy framework aimed at mitigating the adverse economic impacts of the European Union’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) on developing exporters.
